Membership Qualifications
An RSO may not discriminate on the basis of age, color, disability, gender, familial status, height, marital status, national origin, political persuasion, race, religion, sexual orientation, veteran status or weight.
Associate members must meet the following criteria upon initiation:
a) They must be undergraduate biology majors (any area of biology, or neuroscience).
b) They will be in good academic standing with the university.
c) They will have obtained the required amount of Beta points (see below) and paid dues.
Regular members must meet the following criteria upon initiation:
a) They must be undergraduate biology majors (any area of biology, or neuroscience).
b) They will have completed (or be near completion) of their first semester of their sophomore year.
c) They will have completed at least three term courses in biological sciences, maintaining at least a 3.0 or "B" average.
d) They will be in good academic standing with the university.
e) They will have obtained the required amount of Beta points (see below) and paid dues.
Membership Requirements
2.) All members must attend at least 4 general meetings per semester. (Each meeting is worth 5 Beta points)
3.) All members must attend initiations, unless extenuating circumstances occur. Prior approval by E-Board is needed for members that do not attend initiations.
4.) All members must pay the appropriate amount of initiation fees (dues) per semester. For dues information, see our dues page.
5.) All members must attend at least one social event per semester (5-10 Beta points)
6.) All members must volunteer for a fundraiser for at least 3 hours per semester. If fundraisers do not require a booth to be manned, then all members must assist the fundraising chair by handing out fliers and other material for TriBeta fundraisers. (for completing minimum fundraising requirements, 10 Beta points are given)
Beta Points
a)All members must obtain at least 20 Beta points from TriBeta general meetings.
b)All members must obtain at least 5 points from TriBeta social events.
c)All members must obtain at least 10 points from TriBeta fundraisers and fundraising events.
Beta point examples:
-Beta Beta Beta General Meeting (not elections/initiations) – 5 points
-Beta Beta Beta Outreach/Social Event– 5-10 points
-Beta Beta Beta Fundraising minimum requirement- 10 points
-Beta Beta Beta Fundraising opportunities above requirement- 5 points/hour
-Beta Beta Beta Beaver Island/Spring Trip- 25 points
-Research Poster/Oral Presentation at Beta Beta Beta meeting – 10 points
-Research Poster/Oral Presentation at conference – 10-20 points
-Attending conference – 10-20 points
-Biology Department Seminar – 5 points
-Biology Department Special Event – 5 points
-Other events – Discretion of all E-Board members
Fundraising and Social Events
b) All members must volunteer for a fundraiser for at least 3 hours per semester. If fundraisers do not require a booth to be manned, then all members must assist the fundraising chair by handing out fliers and other material for TriBeta fundraisers.
c) If a member has signed up for a fundraiser time slot and does not show up for his/her shift, then 5 Beta points/hour of no-show will be deducted from his/her total.
